Securely store and share your videos, photos, music, emails and other important files with Media Max.
Note: We have moved MediaMax, perhaps temporarily, to the #10 position because of current problems they are having. We were unable to create a new account and have received reports that many other users are having issues with their accounts. MediaMax moved their servers and say this is the cause of the problems. We will monitor the site and hope MediaMax works out the bugs. At that time, they will once again be eligible for the #1 position in our review.
MediaMax, powered by Streamload, offers loads of functional features like private and public file sharing, scheduled backup and a free account. All of this and a lot of storage space at a low price. You can get 100 GB of online storage for just $4.95 a month.
MediaMax has a free beta program called MediaMax XL Beta Software. This desktop application allows you to automatically backup your important files and sync between computers. With this application, you can even submit batch upload and downloads to transfer a number of files at one time. Through MediaMax XL, you can designate which files you want to backup so your important information will be secure and never damaged by a virus, natural disaster or lost because of a broken storage device.
Some other key features from MediaMax include easy file sharing. You can share files two different ways. Host the file at a web address so friends, family or anyone can access the files at that address. Or, you can email the files directly from the MediaMax interface. Your friends and family can upload files to your account from the MediaMax homepage even if they don’t have an account.
This online storage service enables you to view and play movies, pictures and music right from your account. You don’t have to download media files to enjoy them.
Streamload uses SSL encryption during all file transfers. Each account is protected by a username and password and they have a strict privacy policy; in other words, your files are safe.
The only security feature this service doesn’t have is multi–level security. This would be practical because you could give password access to friends and family to some of your files, without permitting them access to all of your files. This is a convenient and safe way to share files.
MediaMax features the most online storage space for the lowest price. They offer a free account with 25 GB of storage. Need more space?—they also offer 100 GB for $4.95 and plans up to one terabyte (1,000 GB). You would be able to store an average of 200 uncompressed movies with a terabyte. You can easily upgrade your account at any time.
The MediaMax interface is divided into six different tabs: Video Share, Photo Share, TV & Movie Locker, Music Locker, File Manager and Mail. You are able to create as many folders in each section as you want and easily move files from one folder to another.
There are additional folders in a smaller window: My Files, Hosted and Trash. These folders contain all of your files, files hosted on the web and deleted files.
We ran into a bug with the file system where the interface didn’t recognize the folders we created. We emailed MediaMax and they promptly responded and said they were working on getting the bug fixed. A few days later the bug disappeared and our account works perfectly.
MediaMax has an in–depth tutorial where you can find information on the applications of the service. The tutorial appears each time you enter your account until you select the do not display again box. We found all the information we needed here. There are also FAQs and you can contact help and support by email.
If you’ve ever thought about storing important data online, this is the best place to do it. MediaMax offers everything you need to automatically backup, store and share your files. Their free account offers five times more storage than any other free account—25 gigabytes.
