Security:  

Security is one of the two categories where Mozy gets a perfect score. Now remember that doesn’t guarantee anything because no security measures are infallible. But having said that, Mozy has one of the most secure and well-thought-out data storage systems we’ve seen in online storage services. There are multiple levels of security and encryption.

Your account is password protected, and whenever data is transferred, Mozy uses 128-bit SSL encryption to ensure it isn’t intercepted. While your files are in storage, Mozy also uses a 448-bit Blowfish encryption to prevent someone from getting your data if the Mozy servers were to be breached somehow. If you use the MozyPro service (which is designed more for enterprise use) you can even manage your own encryption key using military-grade 256-bit AES encryption. Obviously, this would be way too complicated for the average user, but if you want it the option is still there.

Mozy also does a good job of detecting which files have been altered since they were last backed up so you know that the version stored in your Mozy account is the most recent.

Storage Space/Price:  

This is by far one of the most attractive features when considering Mozy. When it comes down to it, the features and security are important, but most people just want to know how much space they can get for their dollar. Fortunately, Mozy offers a great space/price ratio without skimping on the features or security. While there are a couple other services in this review that have cheaper pricing plans, none have a better combination of price, features and security.

Mozy offers 2GB of storage space to anybody free of charge. This is a great option for most people because they are only looking to store a few files, pictures or documents so they can be accessed from anywhere. Unless you need a lot more than 2GB, Mozy is a great way to store your files for free.

If you need more than that, Mozy only charges $4.95 per month for unlimited storage space. Obviously that’s a nice deal because you don’t have to worry about going over your allotted space. Another great thing about this plan is that you don’t have to pick and choose between backing up files or having critical files available for download anywhere. You have enough space to backup everything on your computer as well as keep all the documents you need at your disposal wherever you go.
